People often ask this question that what is the point of reading literature?
What is the objective of literature other than the fact that it may give its reader a sense of fullfilment ?
For me literature is much more than aesthtic pleasure,its a mirror in which i see my reflection standing on one side and the reflection of humanity on the other side.

A friend of mine once said, "Science gives you skills, blesses you with knowledge, but the thing that makes you a HUMAN is literature."

Iris Murdoch would have said that the ideal of science and philosophy is clearification,whereas the aim of literature is mystification. :)
I'd say the idea of all sort of knowledge, literature included, is clarification when propagated in a coherent way, if not, it leads to mystification. But that blame should rest on human thought, not knowledge.
